Interview with Billy K. from B&A Promotions, Nov 28,2002

D. Outsider: How and when did you get started?

Billy K: Clubbing and throwing one off parties since 1979, in the early 90's... the scene was changing and becoming boring, to spice things up. My friend and I decided in 1993 to start promoting under B*A on a regular bases in nights clubs around the city.. The Kremlin, Exit2Eden and Stilife being some of our first spots

D. Outsider: How did you come up with the name B&A and how did you all come together ?

Billy K: B*A was myself "BILL" and my friend "AMAR" (the Star in the middle was cause that's how we wanted to treat people( Like Stars) Clubbers and partiers was what we were.. promoters is what we became. We would seek great parties.. when there wasn't any we would create them. In 1996 Amar left to do his own thing, so B*A became BILL & ASSOCIATES, The Associates are my group of friends, Dj jimmy jam, Door person Rob,Bartender Jason, co hosts Lady K & Iceman... and we have part-time associates for specialty events.

D. Outsider: Who do you consider to be your influences that got you involved in the Club Scene?

Billy K: The Scene itself... with Dj's Mc's etc... Love of all music, Love of dancing , Love of all People. With the Legacy you have started in the nightclub scene what advice do you think you can give for those who choose to get involved in this scene on having a long lasting future in surviving in this ever so changing business.

Be Innovative and original as you can be.
Try to stay one step ahead.
Have Fun, don't get cocky.
Try to stay clean.. I have seen many loose it all with drugs.
Never let success get to your head ...people make people and break people. always treat everyone as you would want to be treated yourself I stay grounded and have great respect for all.
Faith in God and family values go along way too.
I am the same today as I was 10 years or 20 years ago.
Again a respect and a love for all people will go a long way..

D. Outsider: Where or what would you say at of the many events and parties you have done which one would you say stands at overall and at which venue would you say is the best Club you have worked with?

Billy K: All our nights and events have been fun and exciting but... Our and my best times came out of our Thursday hot spot EXIT2EDEN, we ran that Thursday for 4.5 Years straight from 1993 to the middle of 1997. Celebrities, Stars, great people gathered and got together during that time.

D. Outsider: How do you think the scene has change over the past decade and what do you feel has contributed to that change. i.e.(The good things and the Bad Things)?

Billy K: Scenes will change always... the trick is to handle the Change. when we had the best House night in all of TO. at Exit on Thursday we knew the scene was becoming harder as it did with the rave scene, but we also knew it would do a 360 and come back to where we were, as it did again we never lost touch, we never stopped, and we are still standing.
I suggest people get in touch with people again... The rave scene with drugs and all kept people apart and brought up a generation with no communication skills. Clubs are here to meet & enjoy people and dance with them, not to do drugs all night and dance alone...well at least not the whole night.

D. Outsider: Well thank you For your Time.

Billy K: Thank you for the Interview, and congratulations also to Derrick and the Alliance Entertainment Promotions on your 10 yr Anniversary

Bill,
